Concepts for Kids: Controlling Clutter

Concepts for Kids: Controlling Clutter

The following is a guest post from regular contributor, Rachel at Useful Beautiful Home.

We all have trinkets. Things that don’t quite fit into a category or space restriction. Kids do too, but their trinkets seem like junk to us, right? At the very least, it looks like random clutter.

Declutter Help for When You Are Overwhelmed

Declutter Help for When You Are Overwhelmed

I’ve dug today’s post out of the archives for those that might be new here or for those that simply may need a refresher.  Decluttering is a big and necessary part of the organizing PROCESS.  In fact it’s essential because organized clutter is still clutter.  Not only is it important to purge out the stuff in our lives that we don’t use or love BUT let’s not forget about the stuff we simply don’t have the room to store.  You can read more on that here.

How to Create a Magnetic Menu Planning Board

How to Create a Magnetic Menu Planning Board

The following is a guest post from regular contributor, Sharon at Mom of 6.

For those of you that have been following OrgJunkie as long as I have, you know that Laura has shared with us many fantastic menu planning boards. You can even check out some of them on her Menu Plan Monday board on Pinterest. But as beautiful and functional as so many of these menu planning board are- they just didn’t meet my needs. Why? Well…because Mommyhood has stolen away a fair quantity of my brain cells, and I can barely remember where I put my car keys, let alone try to recall three different types of chicken dishes that my kids will actually eat each week. In order to menu plan- I need all of my options laid out right in front of me, so that I can pick and choose from a pre-organized list. This makes it easy-peasy to do, and avoids the pitfall of serving the same meal week after week!

He Said, She Said: Building a Home Together

Posted: 23 Sep 2013 12:33 PM PDT

Family, Home & Life. Those are three things that I blog about A LOT here. Daily, I drill down to the nitty gritty happenings around our abode, whether it be organizing a drawer, painting curtains, installing a paneled wall or renovating an entire bathroom. Although my main man, Bryan, doesn't get nearly enough love and attention on my blog, the majority of the projects wouldn't happen without him. At the end of the day, he brings SO much to what happens around here, whether that be just by supporting my visions, contributing to an idea or lending a helping hand {a.k.a. taking over and making the end result rock!}.

Occasionally I share a little about the behind the scenes conversations that take place when a project goes down, and it always drums up questions about our process, and how we work together. Sure, I run the blog, but Bryan is such a BIG part of it. So I thought I would invite him here today, to not just be the Wilson of the blog {think Home Improvement, although we typically only see Bryan's hands and feet around here}, but to be a voice. He is joining me today to answer some of the most commonly asked questions we receive, regarding working together and building this happy little home of ours.

One Project at at Time

One Project at a Time: 9/24/13

I loathe cooking. There. I said it. It’s passed time to change that and I do believe that Marcy’s post on her blog Day 2 Day Super Mom, might just be what I need to get excited about cooking. As far as meal planning goes, this might just be the simplest, greatest way to go about it. Using buckets to contain all the ingredients, you can easily pull together a weeks worth of meals in no time at all. Click <HERE> to see what all Marcy included in her post.

When you’re on a tight budget, paying fluctuating bills can be a little frustrating or even stressful. Your natural gas bill might be nice and low in the summer and then skyrocket in the winter. And vice versa for your water bill.

You can help your budget and reduce your chances of not having the funds to pay a monthly bill when it comes due in one of two ways:

Quick 15 Minute Junk Drawer Organization

Often when I run out of things in my own home to organize, I beg my friends to let me organize something in their homes just so I can get a “fix”.   I get the shakes and start frothing at the mouth if I go to long without organizing something which is just so not pretty.  So to enable me avoid that whole ugly scenario my friends agree to let me into their drawers just so they don’t have to watch a grown women have a total melt down.  I’ve got the best of friends what can I say!

Junk Drawer Organization:

So one day as I was visiting my girlfriend and we were waiting for the tea kettle to boil, I got to work on a quick junk drawer makeover.  Seriously these projects take no time at all yet we often put them off thinking we need to set aside hours of time.  You don’t.  Set your timers and let’s get organizing!

Laundry Room Organization

This week we are focusing on the laundry room. Is your laundry room a catch all place?  Would you like to get your cleaners organized?  Spend the next few days cleaning out your laundry room, dust bunnies and all, following my tips below.

An Organized Home Office

Today, my sweet friend Alejandra Costello is sharing her beautifully organized home office with us.  I drool every time I see her pictures and videos of the amazing work she does.  I think you will too!

An Inside Look at Alejandra Costello’s Organized Home Office

I’ve always loved to organize since I was a little kid. In fact, I still remember the days I would spend hours rearranging my bedroom to get it “more organized.” Seems like yesterday.

Fast forward 15 years later, I’m still stir-crazy over organizing. When I bought my first home is 2009- it was like buying a blank canvas to go wild on. Buying a house for the first time and knowing its yours to organize however you’d like is a fun feeling…if you love to organize!
